Volunteering in Los Angeles: Naturist Atmosphere / Medical Field?

Question by The Admirer: Volunteering in Los Angeles: Naturist Atmosphere / Medical Field?

I am a freshman in UCLA and would like an internship in either the medical field or in a naturist atmosphere. I am going to apply for becoming a volunteer for the observatory, a couple of museums, and Griffith Park.

Are there any other places I should apply for that are in Los Angeles (Hollywood area) that are similar to what I seek?

Also, do you guys have any tips for ensuring that I get an internship/volunteer opportunity with a hospital? Thanks!

Hardly a travel question. More like an education or career question.

Did you know that a Naturist is someone who likes to be in the nude outdoors? Catution: Link has nude photos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturism. Do you really want to be a naturist? Or a naturalist?

You won’t get to be outside much at the Observatory. But it’s a cool gig, and the views when the weather is clear are unbelievable. I grew up in LA, and was very blase about the whole observatory thing. It wasn’t until years later that I realized that we probably have the best public observatory in the world, right at our fingertips.

Check to see if the Forest Service has opportunities.

Best way to get any internship is to show interest, enthusiasm, experience, and persistence.

Do you know anyone who works at a local hospital? That would be a help, especially for an internship position. Apply asap because some of the more desirable internships/volunteer positions tend to fill up right about now. Also, some have classes you must attend and they only run on certain dates and/or there are application deadlines.

Most of the hospitals have volunteer tabs on their websites, so it’s easy to see what they have available. Here is Children’s LA:

What about camp counselor? The jobs at the popular camps are being filled right now, but if you went to a local camp, that gives you an advantage.
